Functional communication with each student is a school-wide priority at Yawarra. We employ an array of techniques and technology to ensure each student has the greatest opportunity to communicate with their teachers, parents and caregivers. We work with students to improve their verbal communication and our staff are adept in using alternative and augmentative communication systems such as Picture Exchange Communication system (PECs), key word sign, speech devices and eye-gaze technology. Our work is strongly integrated with knowledge and advice provided by visiting speech pathologists and language specialists.
